Crochet and knit the weather for a year!

Crochet and knit the weather for a year!
January 1 Gicona

Have you heard of temperature blankets, also called weather blankets? It is a project where you knit or crochet one round per day in a predetermined color for today's temperature for a whole year. The result is a colorful blanket, or runner if you want to do a smaller project. As an alternative to 365 laps, instead make weekly or monthly boxes that are joined together. To start, you need a starter kit with yarn in different colors where each color represents a temperature range. Colors and temperatures should be evenly distributed between the usually highest and lowest temperatures for the year. When you buy the yarn packages at Favoritgarner then you get a basic suggestion on how to place colors and temperatures, but for best results you should adjust the distribution to suit your latitudes. Do you live e.g. in southern Sweden, you will probably not get the coldest degrees that are common in Norrland and if you want to use all colors, you will redistribute the scale.

All yarn packages come with pattern suggestions that suit this type of project, as it is important that you get a proportional measure after 365 rounds. So you choose a yarn type and color scale that appeals to you and all packages come with the same pattern document. The pictures for each yarn show blankets and tablecloths made in that particular yarn, but you can use any yarn package and choose from the pattern suggestions as everyone fits. Depending on what degrees it will be in the coming year, you will continuously supplement with yarn, or buy a double set of starter packs so that is enough for a while. The finished blanket / cloth that extends over an entire year shows how the temperature and colors are distributed over the year. You can break in with a glitter yarn or deviating stitches at the end of each month or on public holidays.

So when do you start this project? You can start a temperature blanket at any time of the year, choose to start the day you have the yarn, or collect previous temperatures and crochet / catch up from the beginning of the year and do it for an entire calendar year. Why not make a temperature blanket from a specific year that means extra? There are several pages that have facts about previous temperatures, one is for example Temperatur.nu.

The yarn shop Favoritgarner was one of the first to sell yarn packages for this in Sweden. The designer Frostvirka and Annimia has in collaboration with Gicona and Favoritgarner crocheted and knitted these projects for several years and their yarn packages including patterns are available at Favoritgarner -> HERE
