Who is MyDIY? My name is My and lives just outside Halmstad with my partner and our little pug.

Are you knitting, crochet or maybe both? Virkare! Wish I could say both but I haven't had the patience enough to learn to knit after several failed attempts.

If you switch to a completely different creative activity, what do you do? I use my creative eye for many everyday projects. But I like to create, so sewing is not an unusual activity. To paint, make decoupage, a bracelet or two of pearls, etc., I think I am creative in everything.

How did you learn to crochet / knit and when did you start creating your own design? Sat with my grandmother when I was a kid knitting, but I first picked up the crochet hook in high school when I chose to crochet a top for a dress as part of my thesis work (my thesis work was to create and sew a clothing collection that would then be displayed ).

What is your best advice for someone who would like to start creating their own design? Not to give up (although I myself may not always follow that advice). But to try and dare. If it does not turn out well the first time, there is no saying that it will not be possible at the next attempt.

How does a design idea become a finished design and how do you best put together nice color combinations? I always have to see everything in front of me, so I always try to draw up the idea that comes to me, then fill with text around alternative yarn choices, stitches, etc. to create as a moodboard. In addition, I usually try to work a bit in an unthought yarn to avoid cutting the new skeins if my idea falls flat. With regard to the choice of colors, I always assume that X number should go in the same direction in the color scale (eg burgundy, light pink) and sometimes then throw in a color that goes in a completely different direction (eg mustard yellow). Sometimes it will be nice and sometimes it will be a disaster. But in this way, you can create quite unique combinations.

What is your favorite color? Burgundy!

What kind of yarn do you prefer? Inbetween-thick. Favorite size of crochet hook is 3,5-4 mm. I like and use a lot of cotton but I think it gets a little hard worked up sometimes. Merino wool is a new favorite, which is fantastically soft but not as sticky.

Which is your biggest knitting or knitting tab? Not to quit. To start many new projects before the ones you have already put so much time into are ready.

Which one are you most proud of? My pattern "Fading Waves", not very advanced but it is so very powerful - extra wonderful it became when about 80 different colors were used. Then my first mermaid pattern "Dalliance" also qualifies at the top, which in addition became a CAL which was absolutely fantastic to see the shawl being done by so many - and that it will continue to be done after the end of the event. Incredibly fun!
