Who is Limnell Design? My name is Maria and I live in Örebro with husband and two children. Works as a high school teacher in mathematics and physics. I love symmetry, order and pattern.
Are you knitting, crochet or maybe both? I'm definitely a crocheter. I have tried to knit some, but the crochet is what I stuck to most.
If you switch to a completely different creative activity, what do you do? I like to paint and photograph.
How did you learn to crochet / knit and when did you start creating your own design? I learned to crochet and even knit when I was little. I learned from my grandparents. I had a long break for a while, but when I was pregnant for the first time I got hooked on amigurumi crochet. Sometime in 2016, I discovered that there were many people interested in crochet on social media and then a whole new world opened up! I started crocheting CALs and learned an incredible amount from it. At the end of 2017, I dared to try my own design for the first time.
What is your best advice for someone who would like to start creating their own design? Dare to try! It's incredibly fun! Then I would also like to point out the importance of writing down what you have done. The memory is short….
How does a design idea become a finished design and how do you best put together nice color combinations? It is very different! Sometimes I sketch on a paper, or use the Stitch Fiddle program, but very often I just sit down and test. Sometimes it is not at all what I thought, but then it is just to scratch. When it comes to colors, you almost have to see them in front of you to know if they fit together. But it may happen that it looks different when crocheting with the colors, so it will be very testing even there.
Which is your favoritfärg? Love blue in different shades that are happy to go a little towards the turquoise, but purple is also a favorite.
What kind of yarn do you prefer? I prefer cotton yarn, in the thickness of 8 / 4 or something coarser. Preferably crochet hook 3 - 3,5 mm.
Which is your biggest knitting or crochet tab? My biggest crochet tab is probably when I crocheted a classic pineapple cloth by diagram. I was sure that I followed the pattern to the point, but I must have done too many repetitions, because it was completely impossible to get the cloth flat when it was finished.
Which one are you most proud of? I am most proud of Anemone Mandala. There is an incredible amount of time behind the pattern and it is as much fun every time a new variant as someone crocheted shows up on Instagram or Facebook.
